Access Scioto County (ASC) Coordinator, Larry Mullins, gave us this exclusive statement regarding the new addition to their fleet.
" In September ASC purchased a used 2015 Thomas 42-passenger bus to replace our aging 1999 Bluebird bus. The bus was purchased from Southwest Automotive Sale of Grove City.
The Thomas bus had 73,000 miles on it and was purchase for $31,000. The bus new cost nearly $90,000 and originally been purchased by the Gallipolis Development Center but sent the bus to state auction because of under-utilization.
In making the purchase I researched several buses of comparable make, model, capacity, age and mileage from several dealers across the country and found the prices ranged from $46,000 to $76,000. Based on these prices the average market price for a bus of this type is $54,600.
ASC uses this bus to do trips for large groups like the STEM Academy, Scioto County Career & Technical Center, Shawnee State Children’s Learning Center, and others. While the Bluebird bus has served us well, it was past its prime and needed to be replaced. "
Mr Mullins also added, "The funds to purchase the bus came from our capital replacement fund not our operating fund. The capital replacement fund is funded by a surcharge on our contract revenue to fund the purchases of replacement buses and other equipment."
