A donation to the Waverly Police Department will make it easier for officers to help out dogs they come across in the course of doing their duty.

Officers frequently encounter stray dogs or animals on the scenes of accidents and sometimes even at violent crimes.

In fact, Pike Pet Pals shared a photo of a Pike County Deputy with a frightened dog he found on Western School property just this week. Officers may have the tools they need to handle humans on their duty belts but usually, they lack the supplies necessary to help out dogs in need.

The folks behind Pike Pet Pals discovered an organization called The Love Leads Project that helps provide supplies to law enforcement and sent in a request for a donation. That request was granted and a fresh supply of slip leashes, dog treats, and dog food was dropped off to the Waverly Police Department. They also received doorknocker hangers with copies of current dog laws to distribute.

As you can see by the photo Waverly Officers, including a particularly pleased K9 Officer, are pretty happy about the donation.

The Love Leads program is part of ShowYourSoftSide.org, which also offers cat rescue, classroom materials to teach children about animals, and animal rehabilitation programs for inmates.
