Shortly before 12:30 am this morning, calls came into Portsmouth PD stating a female had been shot near the 2700 block of Scioto Trail. Neighbor statements recall the sounds of gunfire for several blocks.
Within minutes, social media began to light up with speculation, angst, and prayers.
One of our subscribers, who was at SOMC for a broken arm, happened to catch a photograph of what is believed to be the victim's vehicle. It is said, she drove herself to SOMC and burst into the ER, covered in blood, stating she had been shot.
Here is the picture submitted by that subscriber.
As you can see, there are (what appears to be) bullet holes in the trunk door as well as a broken rear glass.
Every single Emergency Response team came to this area: Portsmouth PD, EMS, and Fire. They even went on the roof of China City to recover bullets or casings.
Here is the Exclusive Audio we have compiled of the radio traffic during the incident. A warning, it is intense and probably not safe for children or the workplace.
I went to the scene at apx 6am and the area was still closed with yellow tape and there were several marked and unmarked units on 27th Street, off Scioto Trail.
At 9:30 am, I went to retrieve our daily incident reports from the Portsmouth PD office. Because this is an ongoing investigation, there is no official report ready for release. However, I did observe detectives actively working on the details of the case.
We understand there are at least two suspects in custody. When looking at the jail roster, it is unclear by the charges listed who is associated with this incident. So, I will not post those images until we are sure. It may be, that they were still in the "hot box" being interrogated, or they were booked on other charges and the PD will add charges as their investigation wraps up.
The final piece of the puzzle is the victim or victims. According to the Dispatch recordings, SOMC confirmed a second victim. But, when PD asked about the condition, they referred to one victim. Under HIPAA regulations, we can't release a name or speculate the seriousness of the injuries. There must be a press release after all family notifications are made.
We will, of course, keep close tabs on this story and update as we have solid information. SCDN is #1 for a reason.
UPDATE
Currently in custody are: Hassan Purdie, 27 of Portsmouth and Germain Sims, 26 of Columbus, OH. and Branon Peterson, 32 of Portsmouth.
Purdie is being held with a $200K bond while Sims and Peterson are held without bail. The victim of the shooting is identified as Kellie Jo Prince, 19 of Portsmouth.
Two others were questioned but not arrested.
At 12:28 am on Oct. 30th, officers were dispatched to 2709 Ritchie Street in reference to a shooting. The scene was then determined to be 2630 Scioto Trail.
According to the police reports, an officer in an unmarked vehicle was traveling north on Scioto Trail. While passing 27th street, the officer heard "gunshots fired in rapid succession". The officer then observed an individual climbing the embankment, towards the Scioto Trail Animal Clinic carrying a "long gun in his hands". At the same time, PD dispatch was calling out units to respond to a 911 call about a female being shot on Ritchie Street.
According to statements, Purdie and Prince were traveling together. Once they turned off Scioto Trail onto 27th street Prince states, Purdie "got out of the car and took off running" and then heard gunshots. Realizing she had been shot, she drove to SOMC. That is the vehicle shown at the top of the page.
Two guns were located and impounded:
A Smith & Wesson 380 and an a 223 caliber AR-15
The investigation also included a vacant lot in the 2500 block of Argonne Rd.
This remains and open and active investigation. There are still lots of questions to answer. Including: Why were there so many shell casings inside the house? Why did Purdie exit the vehicle? Of course, what was the motive of the entire incident?
Charges on the three in custody can be changed and/or upgraded. Charges can still be filed on other parties. This is the first written report available for us to give you the facts as best we know them, at this time.
Officially, we do not have a health status on Miss Prince. According to sources on social media, she is alive and was texting friends and family from the hospital, as of yesterday. That has not been independently confirmed.
UPDATE #2 11/01/19
These photos were submitted by a subscriber. The amount of evidence flags outside the home is astounding.
