Portsmouth police officers who stopped a man riding a bicycle on the Scioto Trail found a whole lot of suspicious items inside his backpack.
Officers stopped 38-year-old Bobby Swim early Thursday morning in the 2100 block of the Scioto Trail. While they were waiting for confirmation that Swim had an open warrant, they searched his backpack.
In addition to four hypodermic needles and a digital scale, officers also found a toy gun (an Airsoft pistol) and a mask.
When he checked the pockets of Swim’s jeans, Officer Kyle Galloway discovered a zip pouch containing a crystal substance, red straw, one and a half pills labeled M365, and two empty baggies.
After being read his rights, Swim told officers the crystal substance was Meth. Officers were able to ID the pills as Hydrocodone-Acetaminophen. The crystal substance will be sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation for testing.
Swim was taken to the Scioto County jail and booked for his outstanding warrant as well as charged with possessing drug abuse instruments and criminal tools.
According to the police report, Swim is homeless. Officers took the rest of his property, including several food items, to the Police Department for safekeeping.
