Kenneth B. Lawhorn

July 16, 1946 ~ December 7, 2019 (age 73)


Kenneth Brant Lawhorn, 73, of Wheelersburg, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2019 at SOMC Hospice. Born July 16, 1946 in Scioto County, a son of the late Ottis and Blanche Leake Lawhorn, he was a former employee of Empire Detroit Steel Fru-hauf in Waverly and was a member of Madison Missionary Baptist Church.


He is survived by his wife, Norma (Gammon) Lawhorn; two sons, Dennis (Kimberly) Lawhorn of Wheelersburg, Gary (Dayna) Lawhorn of Wheelersburg; one daughter, Melissa (Danny) Stevenson of Portsmouth; three grandchildren; one great grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Janice) Lawhorn, and one sister, Judy Holbrook. In addition to her parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Lawhorn and Tommy Lawhorn.


Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford with Pastor Don Noel officiating. Burial will be in White Gravel Cemetery in Minford. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Ricky Nelson Kazee, Sr.

July 18, 1965 ~ December 6, 2019 (age 54)


Ricky Nelson Kazee, Sr., 54, of Wheelersburg, died unexpectantly on Friday, December 06, 2019, at his home. Born on July 18, 1965 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Curt and Helen Allard Kazee and was formerly employed at Lowe’s.


Ricky enjoyed fishin’, walking the trails in Wayne National Forest, going to the beach in the Outer Banks, and hunting mushrooms. He never met a stranger, loved the Smokies, was an avid Buckeye fan and watched a lot of WWE Wrestling on television.


Also preceding him in death were bothers, Tony and Dale Kazee.


Surviving are his wife, Donna Bowman Kazee, three sons, Ricky Nelson (Tabatha) Kazee, Jr of Portsmouth, Victor “Doc” Kazee of Wheelersburg and Robert Kazee of Wheelersburg; five brothers, Dallas, Greg, Dennis, John and Dean Kazee; five sisters, Doris Graham, Tammy Rigney, Tina Rose, Sharon Kazee and Lois Friend, and five grandchildren, Brooklyn, Kaden, Kaleb, Keyana and Kyle.


A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 14th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.



Lynne Gail Lewis

May 20, 1945 ~ December 5, 2019 (age 74)


Lynne Gail Lewis, age 74, of Wheelersburg, went to be with the Lord Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Best Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg.


She was born May 20, 1945 in Great Falls, Montana, to Virginia and William Ehrhart. She graduated from Illinois Wesleyan, Morehead State, Marshall and Wright State universities and worked as a clinical psychologist until she retired. She enjoyed doing charitable work (particularly with Loaves and Fishes), singing, hiking, playing cards, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Before her illness, she attended All Saints Episcopal Church.


Lynne is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 53 years, David Lewis of Wheelersburg; mother-in-law Betty Lewis of Portsmouth; two children, Cheryl (Chuck) Giles, Michelle (Brad) Teeters; seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.


Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at D.W. SWICK – NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg, with services officiated by Evan Fisher. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Helen Lucille (Arthur) Duncan

April 22, 1925 ~ December 6, 2019 (age 94)


Helen Lucille Duncan, 94, of Rosemount, passed through the gates of Heaven and walked into the arms of Jesus on December 6, 2019 at the SOMC Hospice Center. She was born April 22, 1925 in Portsmouth to the late Harry E. and Grace Kinder Arthur.


Helen was a 1943 graduate of Portsmouth High School. After graduation, she worked at the former Williams Shoe Factory and at the Scioto County Courthouse. During World War II, Helen worked in Michigan as a “Rosie the Riveter”. After her marriage on Feb. 8, 1946 and the birth of her first child, Helen remained at home, devoting herself to her family. At the age of 5, she gave her heart to Jesus and lived every day as a faithful child of God. She exemplified a Christ-like heart as she touched the lives of so many people. She was a member of Christians Beyond Church at Highland Avenue and it’s choir for over 50 years and she served the church in numerous other capacities. She loved her Lord and her family with all her heart and she was the kindest, most loving angel walking on this earth.


In addition to her parents, Helen was also preceded in death by her husband, William Duncan, Jr. on April 12, 2002; a son, Gerald Duncan; her stepmother, Sudie Arthur; two brothers, Vernon Arthur and Howard Arthur; and two sisters, Janice Brown and Patti Thomas.


Surviving Helen are three children, David (Paula) Duncan of Rosemount; Barbara (Darrel Mershon) Duncan of Rosemount, and Jane Duncan of Lexington, KY; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Duncan of Portsmouth; a brother, Harold (Patty) Arthur of Georgetown; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.


Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday at the Ralph F, Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Nelson Klaiber officiating and interment in Memorial Burial Park.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 7 P.M. and one hour prior to services Tuesday.


The family extends sincere thanks to the staff of SOMC Hospice for the extraordinary, loving, compassionate care that they provided for Helen and the family during Helen’s last days on this earth.

Larry Arnold Boldman Sr.

December 6, 2019


Larry Arnold Boldman Sr, 75 of Lucasville, died Friday December 6, 2019 at his home. He was born July 23, 1944 in Otway to the late Furman Maywood Boldman and Donnah Virginia Hoffer (Gilbert) Helwig. Larry was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War, an assembly line operator at GM Truck & Bus and was a fireman at the Rubyville Fire Department.


Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Gail Underwood Boldman whom he married June 21, 1975, a brother Lonnie Boldman, and a sister Bonnie Bias.


Larry is survived by his son Larry A. (James) Boldman Jr., a daughter, Bonnie Boldman, 3 brothers; Gary Boldman, Bill Browning, and John Browning, 3 sisters; Vivian Browning, Audrey Clausing, and Charlotte Helwig, 3 grandchildren; Braden McCutcheon-Boldman, Alyssa Wilcox, and Isabella Wilcox, a brother in law, Mark Underwood, sister in law, Juanita Wells, a special family friend, Steve Boyd, several nieces and nephews and was known as a father and friend to many.


Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday December 11, 2019 at the Old Hoffer Hill Baptist Church in Otway with Dennis Dawes officiating and interment in Hoffer Hill Cemetery with Military graveside rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. Friends may call at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth from 6 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Madelene Mae Maynard

January 2, 1925 - December 5, 2019


Madelene Mae Brown Maynard, 94 of Ironton, OH formerly of Lewis County, KY passed away December 5, 2019 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. She was born in Greenup, KY a daughter of the late Wallie Jefferson and Sarah Madden Brown.


Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Allison “Ellis” Maynard; five brothers, Virgil, Shannon, Wales, Jeff and Ewing Brown; two sisters, Leitha Brown and Edna Price.


Left behind to cherish her memory are two sisters Mary Wolfe and Opal Dunaway; one brother, Shelby Brown; special niece, Jamie McGlone; special friends, Diane Bertram, Kim Harris and Dale Dummitt.


Funeral Services will be 12 P.M. Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Little Country Church in Garrison, KY with Larry Joe Madden officiating. Burial will follow at Maynard-Dummitt Cemetery in Greenup, KY. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. and from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour at the Church on Wednesday.

Eugene Ralph McJunkin

Resided in Piketon, Ohio


Eugene Ralph McJunkin, 92, of Oak Street, Piketon, died 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 in the V.A. Hospital, Chillicothe, Ohio.


Eugene was born December 14, 1926 in Otway, Ohio, the son of the late David P. McJunkin and Ada (McCoy) McJunkin. On December 24, 1955 Eugene was united in marriage to Edith Mae (McPherson) McJunkin who preceded him in death September 9, 2008.


Surviving are a son, Michael McJunkin and wife Trina of Jackson, Ohio and two granddaughters, Meghan Hudson and husband Jerry of Piketon, Ohio and Emily Burton and husband Dalton of Honolulu, Hawaii.


Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, David, Theodore, Orin, and Irvin McJunkin.


Eugene was retired from the military and the State of Ohio Corrections Department. He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army and a Korean War and Vietnam Conflict Veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force.


Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Dale Reed officiating. Military services conducted by the American Legion Merritt Post #363 Honor Guard, Lucasville, Ohio.


Family will receive friends at the Boyer Funeral Home 4:00-6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
