A nurse at the Port45 rehab facility in Portsmouth, OH is being investigated for suspected prescription drug fraud.
Officials from the Ohio State Board of Nursing contacted Portsmouth Police last week to notify them of a pending investigation into a nurse who works at the recently-expanded Port45 rehab center.
The Board was notified by an attorney for Port45 that Registered Nurse Morgan Jackson, 28, of Portsmouth, has been accused of writing at least 20 prescriptions using the DEA numbers of other employees. The DEA number is a unique number assigned to health care providers that allows them to write prescriptions for controlled substances.
The government can use the data to track how many prescriptions and individual is writing. Additionally, the attorney alleged that Jackson wrote prescriptions to individuals who were not patients at Port45. It’s also claimed that she was keeping unused medication.
The Board of Nursing is required to pass any reports of potential felonies on to local law enforcement. No formal criminal complaint has been filed. The State Pharmacy Board will also be investigating the accusations.
We contacted Port45 and were told the facility
had no comment on the matter at this time.
Just two weeks ago, Port45 hosted a grand opening of their new 10,000 square ft. facility on 11th Street in Portsmouth.
UPDATE: After the release of the original story, we were contacted by a second employee of Port45 Recovery who also refused to make a public statement. They did, however, ask for an email address that their attorney could use to issue a statement. According to the Police reports, the attorney for Port45 is the person that initiated the original report to the Board of Nursing listing the suspect's name and list of allegations.
