On Wednesday, the Defiance Ohio Fire Department will officially make available a

"Safe Haven Baby Drop Off" box.

Defiance, Ohio Fire Department

This drop off box is the first one to be installed in Ohio.

Safe Haven Baby Boxes carry a price tag of $15,000 together with installation. They are equipped with alarm systems to contact 9-1-1 instantly. The boxes even have heating and cooling systems and lock as immediately after the infant is placed inside.

Fire Departments, among other public facilities have long been designated "Safe Havens". They are used for Suicide Prevention and Infanticide Prevention, among other services.

Due to the remote location, it was determined that a person could utilize this box to help protect their anonymity.

In all OH, KY, and WV a parent can surrender a newborn to a Safe Haven location up to 30 days of age.

What do you think? Is 30 days not enough? Is this a good idea?

What's next? Can you see the limit of the child's age being raised?
